Pythagoras Engine Factory in Norrtelje.

Pythagoras Engine Factory in Norrtelje was founded in 1898.

In 1905 they started making crude oil engins called FRAM & DROTT

At the world fair in Milano 1907 a FRAM engine was started
and it was stopped when the exhibition was over one month later
These crude oil engines could be driven by all sorts oils such as engine waste oil and vegetabel oils
Anything could be used as fuel even peanut oil and butter if it was necessary.

On saturday the 13 of september the Swedish Traction Club had a meeting at this old factory.
Some 15 Tractions and about 25 people showed up and we had a guided tour of the old factory.
Our guide for the day was Fred Andersson who is one of the people who has laid down a lot of work
to preserve and restore this uniqe old engine factory.

In the pictures above you can see the interior of the factory and an old FRAM engine at work Everything inside the factory is still left since the business ended in 1979.
All kinds of huge machines can be seen here and most of them are operationabel.
The factory had its own electrical powerplant driven by a large crude oil engine.

The poeple involved in this Pythagoras project are doing a great job keeping the old machines in working order.
Some restoration work is also done on old engines of this type.

The engines made at Pythagoras was exported all over the world and many of them is still working.
A crude oil engine can last a very long time if maintained properly.
These are low rpm engines dimensioned for constant running.
They were often used on farms as a power source for varioues farming equipments.

We all from the Swedish Traction Owners Club had a very good time and
learned a bit of the industri at the beginning of the century.
